in the last school Finance video an example breakdown of how School District dollars are spent was provided for Hondo ISD 75 to 85% of the District budget is dedicated to staff to include benefits the second highest percentage of the budget goes to facility maintenance our staff has worked very hard to maintain our aging facilities and although there are obsolescence plans in place there are always unexpected and as you are aware the cost of electricity Fuel and just about everything has gone up in the last few years what compounds the finance issue is that the current school funding system does not account account for inflation and the state has not increased funding to Public Schools since 2019 we have been fortunate with the amount of support from our community and even some out-of-state donors who have made it possible for us to make some improvements around the district now as we wait for the next legislative session you can help us by reaching out to State elected officials to reiterate the importance of supporting our Public Schools we want to continue to provide the best we can to our students while maintaining a strong teaching Force
